The Mayor of Darlington is holding a VE remembrance event at Cockerton Club with lots of fun activities to get involved in.

The event will include three acts, pie and peas from Taylors, a tombola and raffle.

You can still buy tickets although you'll have to get them before lunchtime today (May 7) to get food as well. Tickets will still be on sale after this deadline, but without food included.

The doors will open at 7.30pm and you will be able to listen to Wor Vera, Lizzie Hogarth and Sam Morton.

All proceeds from the event will raise awareness of mental health and wellbeing issues. Some will be donated to The Listening Post and ManHealth.

Jan Cossins, Mayor of Darlington, said: "I just think it's important to remember what was done for us during six years of battle.

"This is the 79th anniversary of Victory in Europe- although it was around 3 months before the war actually ended, with VJ Day.

"Hopefully I might do another event at Cockerton Club next year, for the big one.

"I will be holding a tombola, table raffle and a couple of games of bingo, all to raise awareness and hopefully some money for my two charities- The Listening Post and ManHealth, which are both to help with mental health and wellbeing issues.

"There is a pie and peas supper, but I needed numbers by lunchtime on Tuesday, but people can still purchase tickets, they just won't get fed! There will obviously be a reduction in the cost to reflect that."

Tickets are available at £12.50 per person, from Cockerton Club, or by calling 01325 405813 or emailing Gail.Banyard@darlington.gov.uk
